The PM Podcast - It's a Lot of Work

About an hour ago I published Episode 097 of The PM Podcast. Just this morning alone I spent 4 hours on getting it ready and published. For those of you who would like to take a look behind the scenes, here is all the work that was involved in creating this particular episode:

Interview with Jerry Manas

  • Contacting Jerry Manas and asking if he'd be interested in doing an interview on his new book (10 mins)
  • Reading Jerry's book (don't remember how long it took...)
  • Creating about 15 questions for the interview and sending them to Jerry (30 minutes)
  • Setting up date & time for the interview (10 mins)
  • Setting up & testing my hardware for the interview (10 mins)
  • Calling Jerry on Skype and doing the interview (1 hour)
  • Editing the interview (45 mins)

PMPOD.de Gizmos Interview

  • Contacting Sebastian Stuecker about doing a 5 minute Gizmos interview including the questions (15 mins)
  • Setting up date & time for the interview (10 mins)
  • Setting up & testing my hardware for the interview (10 mins)
  • Calling Sebastian on Skype and doing the interview (15 mins)
  • Editing the interview (15 mins)

Completing the episode

  • Scripting my text for the episode (intro text, announcements, etc.) (20 mins)
  • Recording intro & everything else (20 mins)
  • Editing Interview, Gizmos and my own voice together into a complete episode. Adding all the other sound effects (1 hour)

Publishing the episode

  • Copy the file to the server (10 mins - happens while I do other things)
  • Updating The PM Podcast website (20 mins)
  • Updating the Podcast XML Feed for free & Premium subscribers (15 mins)
  • Emailing an update to the mailing list about the new episode (15 mins)
  • Test everything (5 mins)

Seeing the time it takes written down like this makes me wonder why I have been doing this for almost 3 years... I must enjoy it.
