PMP Exam Tip: The Exam will Test you on Concepts you may Not know

PMP Exam Tip: The Exam will Test you on Concepts you may Not knowThis tip is intended to tell you that you should expect the unexpected in the PMP exam test questions. For instance, one student asked me why he got a question on the technique of "Activity on Arrow" (AOA) on his exam, even though at that time, this technique had been removed from The PMBOK Guide. My answer was as follows:

The PMBOK Guide is a GUIDE. It doesn't contain 100% of the concepts and tools that project managers around the world use. So are some concepts that may not appear on the latest PMBOK® Guide but are still being used. Also, PMI clearly says that the exam will also test you on concepts that are not necessarily found in the PMBOK® Guide (but they cleverly omit telling us where we could find these other concepts).
So what is the consequence of PMI’s testing approach? Don't be surprised to find questions on the test that are about concepts that are not (or no longer) on the PMP Exam. But don't let that worry you too much. Simply accept that this might happen, read lessons learned from others, so that you can see what might be on the test and do your best to prepare for the exam. During the exam, do not panic in case there is an unexpected topic, try your best in answering the question.
