The new PMP exam starts June 30th, 2009... no... wait... July 1st!

UPDATE:

The information below was based on the old information from PMI which everyone (including me) misinterpreted. The update is that the new PMP exam starts on July 1st. See here for the details...

Every 4 years the PMI releases a new version of The PMBOK® Guide and on December 31st 2008 the 4th Edition was released. Because all of the PMI credential exams are based on this guide (some more, some less) this means that all PMI Exams will change in 2009.

If you are planning to take a PMI certification exam this year, then you must know which edition of the PMBOK® Guide to use in your studies. Here is an overview of the dates when the exams change:

Credential
Examination Updated
 PMP®  30 June 2009
 CAPM®  31 July 2009
 PMI-SP  31 Aug 2009
 PMI-RMP  31 Aug 2009
 PgMP®  31 Aug 2009

Please be advised that, in all circumstances, all exams taken on and after the dates listed above will be based on the updated PMBOK® Guide 4th Edition.

What does this mean for you?

  • If you are currently studying for one of the exams listed above, then use the PMBOK® Guide 3rd Edition and make sure that you take the exam before the date listed.
  • If you are planning to take a PMI exam on or after the dates listed above then use the PMBOK® Guide 4th Edition in your studies.

Good luck on your future exam and congratulations if you have already passed!

REPEAT:

The information above was based on the old information from PMI which everyone (including me) misinterpreted. The update is that the new PMP exam starts on July 1st. See here for the details...
