Every Project Manager Needs an Up-to-date LInkedIn Profile

Yesterday I attended the PMI OC Annual Career Fair. This year it was titled "An Evening of Transition". There were 4 speakers and a number of recruiters & companies were present looking for people to hire. One question I had was: How important is the online presence of an applicant during a job search. I took the opportunity and spoke to many of the recruiters there in particular about if they look at my LinkedIn profile when I apply for a job with them. I learned that many of the recruiters will indeed look at your LinkedIn profile during the application process.

To me, this means that even if you don't find LinkedIn helpful in regards to online networking with other project managers, it is good practice to get an account and have a complete profile. In this way, your profile is available to the recruiters when you look for your next job.

Does anyone have any anecdotal stories about how LinkedIn (or another online site where you have a business profile) has helped them find their next job?

I will take what I have learned yesterday and publish it as one of the upcoming PM Podcast episodes for everyone's benefit.
